How we write, check and update our guides
Our job is to explain money decisions clearly and accurately. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
Independence from advertisers
Sagewise is paid by some companies that appear on the site (see how we make money). Advertisers and partners don't write, review or approve our guides, and payment never changes what a guide says. Offers and ads are kept visually separate from editorial content and are labeled.
Sources and facts
- We rely on primary sources: government agencies (such as SSA, CMS, IRS, CFPB, HUD and state insurance departments), laws and regulations, and companies' own published terms.
- Every guide lists its sources, and figures that change over time are tied to a year or date.
- We don't use words like "best", "#1", "guaranteed" or "cheapest" unless we can show the evidence and method behind them.
- We don't publish star ratings today. If we add ratings, we'll publish the method, the criteria and the date first.
Who writes and reviews
Guides are written and edited by the Sagewise editorial team. We're recruiting independent, licensed professionals (property and casualty insurance agents, loan officers, financial planners and Medicare agents) to review guides in their field. A guide is described as expert reviewed only when it names the reviewer and the date of their review.
Our use of AI tools
We use software, including AI tools, to help research, organize and draft. A member of our team edits every guide, checks the facts against the listed sources and is responsible for what we publish. We don't publish AI-generated testimonials, reviews or quotes.
Keeping guides current
Each guide shows the date it was last updated. We review money guides at least every six months, and sooner when rules or yearly figures change (for example Social Security and Medicare announcements). We don't backdate content.
Corrections policy
If you find an error, please tell us. We aim to review reports within two business days. When we correct a factual error, we update the guide and its "updated" date, and for significant corrections we add a note explaining what changed.
Not individual advice
Our guides are general education. They aren't individual financial, insurance, legal or tax advice. Rules, prices and availability vary by state and company.
